  • Intrapreneurship – The Missing Link

Martin Brown is an incredibly motivating, inspiring personality and an extraordinary entrepreneur. At the prime of his life as a Advanced Life Support Paramedic student, SA Acrobatic Teacher with 6 SA Titles to his name and a Professional Ballroom and Latin dancer, it all came to a sudden stop. Dreams, goals and life disappeared in a flash as destiny stepped in on a warm December day in 1997.

Martin dived in to the Vaal River to cool off and struck a submerged sandbank, this paralysed him instantly from the neck down, a quadriplegic. He remained concious through the whole ordeal and even managed his own rescue and evacuation, only then did he loose conciousness and that why he is alive today.

Martin’s very real story is one of how he coped with the sudden trauma of being totally paralyzed without any sensation or being able to breath. He awoke in his hospital bed, his life instantly changed from independence to a life of permanent disability – something that “only happens to whose lives he use to save”. He bravely speaks of how he reached to the deepest depths of his soul to reconstruct his own and his family’s life. The power-of-tenacity and love-of-serving is very evident in Martin’s story.

Since his paralysis Martin founded and manages Radical Holdings (Pty) Ltd a award winning power wheelchair design and manufacturing company. In addition, he has trained as a web designer and received his National Certificate in Information Technology, and also started Radical Computing assisting many differently-abled people with their special computer needs. He is also busy studying towards his B.Com Entrepreneurship.

At 41 after being disabled for the last 15 years, Martin still excels and serves people every day, a true inspiration.
